Every butterfly and pollinator garden MUST contain Showy Milkweed (Asclepias speciosa)!
This pink-white star-shaped flower is a showstopper, and is a perennial that thrives in low-water conditions. I live in the desert of the western US and grow it with ease. It is very water-wise so it helps you save money on watering expenses.
One little seed goes a long way! These seeds grow into huge flower-covered stalks that can stretch 3 feet across and 3 feet tall. They are covered with gorgeous mounds of pink-white flowers from June through September. If your soil is loose and sandy, these plants will spread beneath the ground. If you'd rather they not spread, I suggest planting them in a container or in a container underground such as a buried pot.
The flowers are bee and butterfly-magnets. People always ask me what this flower is in my garden and it's an honor to share my seeds with them. Bees, butterflies, and beneficial insects absolutely love them! This is a hardy perennial - trim it back each fall and watch it grow just and big and beautiful next spring. It grows big and well here, so I divide mine each fall into separate plants, transplanting throughout the yard and sharing with friends.
Monarchs are known to nest and feast on these milkweed plants; they're grown across the western US and are critical to the health and success of the monarch butterfly species. I've been growing this variety for several years, re-seeding each year. This packet of seeds will be enough to cover your yard in gorgeous Showy Milkweed!
I recommend planting in the fall so they stratify, OR placing your seeds in the fridge for a few weeks before planting so that you "mimic" stratification. Easy as that!
This purchase is for 30 pink-white Showy Milkweed seeds.
